How to prepare your yard for lawn mowing.

A few minutes of preparation before a mowing provider arrives helps the job go smoothly and keeps your yard — and their equipment — safe.

Clear the yard first

  • Toys, sports equipment, and anything left on the lawn.
  • Hoses and sprinklers moved off the grass.
  • Furniture, planters, or anything else that's easy to move.
  • Pet waste picked up from the areas that will be mowed.
  • Pets brought inside or kept away from the work area while the provider is there.

Access and hidden obstacles

  • Make sure gates are unlocked, or share how to get in.
  • Point out anything hidden in tall grass — sprinkler heads, edging, rocks, or holes.
  • Let your provider know if the yard is unusually wet — it can affect timing or whether mowing happens at all that visit.
  • Flag any areas you don't want mowed, like a new planting or a spot you're letting grow.

Let your provider know your preferences

  • Whether you want edging or trimming included, if that's offered.
  • Whether you want clippings bagged, left on the lawn, or mulched, if that choice is available.
  • Anything else specific to your property — a sensitive plant, a slope, or a section that needs extra care.

What this guide isn't

This is preparation guidance, not lawn-care advice — Mow-Macho doesn't set mowing height, fertilizer, or pesticide recommendations for your property. Talk to your provider directly about anything specific to your lawn's health.
